You Get What You Ask for

The fear of how others will perceive us is enough to keep us from speaking up for ourselves, whether it's about how we want to be treated or how we want to share our valuable contributions with the world.

But this is a situation where you can only get out of your life and career what you ask of it.

Have you ever noticed how hard it is to get the outcome you want when you're not clear and committed, to both yourself and to others, about what you want?

Stifling what you ask of yourself for fear of failure or of what others think can cost you your confidence, your earning power, and your sanity. I speak from experience.

So what do you do when you feel you can't speak up?

Start by understanding that while speaking up may seem to come with a cost, the cost of silence is often greater.

Then, get clear about the future you see for yourself and speak from your commitment to that future.
