One of the easiest ways to learn how to knit is just to pick up the needle and yarn and start knitting. You'll eventually get it right after a few failed attempts. You stay knitting confidently knowing that you will figure it out along the way.
The same is true about handling a new task or learning a new skill in a negative or toxic workplace - even skills that aren't in your job description. You need to be confident enough to allow yourself to make some mistakes while also learning from them as you build your capabilities.
The pull to avoid the discomfort that comes with learning something new and getting it wrong is strong, especially if you have a bad boss. But, knowing that their opinion can't undermine who you are and where you are headed (career destination) makes all the difference.
Stay confident so you can focus on learning and growing rather than always trying to "get it right".
